EAGLE OFFENHAUSER

STP a sponsorisé les 3 Eagle Offenhauser engagées à Indianapolis par Patrick Racing. Elles étaient réparties comme suit: #20 Gordon Johncock, #40 Swede Savage et #60 (ici présentée) pour le champion 1972 de Formule 5000, le néozélandais Graham McRae.

En 1973, sous la direction du légendaire mécanicien en chef George Bignotti, elle obtiendra la victoire en 1973 aux “500” avec Gordon Johncock. Malheureusement, les deux tragédies fatales à Swede Savage et à son mécanicien Armando Teran ont définitivement terni cette victoire.

Cette voiture est admirablement reconstruite. Il s’agit d’une des plus belles Eagle Indycar de cette période.

The STP sponsored Patrick Racing Team arrived at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1973 with 3 Offenhauser powered AAR Eagles. #20 Gordon Johncock, #40 Swede Savage and the above #60 for 1972 SCCA Formula 5000 Champion New Zealander Graham McRae. Under the leadership of legendary chief mechanic George Bignotti they would go onto win the 1973 “500” with Gordon Johncock and with Graham Mcrae taking rookie of year honors in this car. Unfortunately the dual fatal tragedies of Swede Savage and mechanic Armando Teran made for a dark, hollow victory.
